Illinois Farm Girl

a mother's perspective on farm life & farm kids

Popping Up Memories

November 17, 2013

30 Days of Farm Girl Memories rolls on after a bit of a break this weekend.  The break was necessary.   After posting “The Popcorn Stand” Friday along with the kids’ order form for their popcorn, our home turned into a working popcorn palace.  A big thank you goes to all the generous folks who indulged the kids’ entrepreneurial spirit.

Friday evening we finally made it home from school and errands.  The kids begged to check the order form summary.  They screeched with excitement. I panicked.

“We have to do what?” My Farmer sighed when he plodded in later that night.

“Shell thirty pounds of popcorn,” I squeaked.

Thankfully, a rainy Saturday sent Papa (my dad) on a neighborhood search for a corn sheller.  He found one!

The kids quickly fell into rhythm. Nattie pitched the ears in while Ethan cranked.

So today, we shelled and assembled gift bags and holiday bundles.  I turned off the “accept responses” function on our order form . . . at least until we get a handle on what inventory is left.

My Farmer and I are massaging our temples this evening while the farm boy and farm princess are planning for next year’s popcorn patch. Its safe to say today we popped some new farm memories.
